Okay, so I have this idea, and for it to really work, collaborators would have to join the effort. Over time, the result could be a pretty great resource, as well as something (and this is a big dream) that influences some decision making.
The idea: having a feature on this Substack called something like “Films and Shows With No Guns.” It’s pretty self explanatory. Basically, we write short, thoughtful reviews of films, television, games, and possibly other media, all under the single condition that guns cannot appear in the work. It’s not something we would need to discuss in the review/recommendation, as it would simply be assumed by the readers.
Why do I want to do this? I find it incredibly hard to find entertainment that doesn’t have guns everywhere, including the movie posters. I’m not talking about a “kid friendly” type of thing, as there could be many R-rated and NC-17 films/shows involved. And I am not even saying “no violence,” as violence is a part of our world and often, frankly, an important subject for the probings of art. (Dragons breathing fire—all for it.)
So, what do you think? Would anybody be interested in this? If even just to say, “You know what, how about we watch something tonight that has no guns in it?”
I'd be interested in doing this. My area of specialization, animation, has a great deal of firearms free content, at least in certain programs.
One of my hobbies is watching movies and series, regardless of the genre three days in a week for a few hours (i do this every Wed-Fri [my weekends are Thurs and Fris] from noon till 3 or 4 pm). Yes, count me in 😉🙂
