The video for last night’s 6:30 Music Series is available for viewing. The theme was “Words + Music.” The embedded video below joins at the start of my portion (about 58 minutes in), but trust me, the whole thing is worth viewing! I felt a bit outclassed, as all of the other performers have significant experience in the world of theater, and it really shows in their delivery, which is masterful.
I was the lone poet (obvious because I’m reading from paper!), but my collaborators are two incredible musicians: Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, who is an accomplished composer and French horn player, and Adam Gaines, who is a jazz master and trumpet player. Michelle composed all of the electronic music and has some speaking parts, and Adam plays trumpet live with a few recorded bits as well.
A little context… the piece is called “MRI for a Bullet Yet to Arrive,” and is an experimental piece about living in a world that has normalized gun violence. I wrote the embedded poem, as well as all the dialogue and stage directions. I even wore all black to fit in with the musicians!
Enjoy! (I did my best, I swear.)
Impressive piece of work, Chuck!
