A beautiful post, wonderfully written. I hadn’t heard of this story before, so thank you for bringing it to my attention. A sad tale, and one the likes of which we’ll no doubt continue to see.

I'm from New Orleans and while I wasn't living there during Katrina, I was down there shortly after the city reopened. At one point I stood on a street near one of the levee breaks and sobbed. Hearing about Lahaina breaks my heart. Thank you for sharing.

I can't imagine what that must have been like to see. I remember driving through the midwest in the great floods of 92? 93? But it wasn't a city I was looking at in most cases. I have that book about that hospital during Katrina, but haven't quite had the courage to read it yet.
